Cameron Petrusevski

Say Hello To 6'6" Setter, Cameron, from Illinois!!!

1. How old are you?
A: I am 18 years old

2. What position do you play?
A:  I am a setter

3. What got you into volleyball?
A: In 6th grade my mom pushed me fo tryout but I was so scared I didn’t even show up to the first day 🤣 then in seventh grade I was sick and then 8th grade I was not on the roster initially but the coach decided to take me on and she has been the reason I still play!

4. Are you currently in or going to college? If so what school are you/ will be attending?
A:  I have just graduated high school and I will be attending UCLA in the fall.  I was originally committed to play at northeast school, but I had gotten off the waitlist at my dream school and could not turn it down.

5.  Who is your role model?
A: One of my biggest role models is my mom who has motivated me and pushed me to be at a level I didn’t know I could achieve both athletically and academically. Another one of my role modes is Serena Williams; her fight, mentality, and attitude towards adversity and challenges inspires me to work harder than ever before.

6. As an athlete what challenges do you face on the court?
A: Definitely keeping myself in check mentally. It is hard to not let your confidence dip and lower your game and it is something I have worked hard on since I stepped on the court.

7. Have you ever been injured while playing? If so what did you injure and what was your recovery process?
A: Thankfully I haven’t suffered any major injuries but during my sophomore year I dove for a ball and landed awkwardly and ended up having a hematoma on my right hip. I technically wasn’t cleared to play but I got pulled up to varsity for playoffs and just pretended it was fine 🤣

8. Do you find it hard to be in a relationship while in season?
A:  I could imagine it being difficult; the demands of season and the sport doesn’t allow for much off time especially with trying to balance out a rigorous academic schedule.

9. What number are you and why?
A:  I am number 38! 38 has held a special place in my heart since it was the Jersey I was given in 8th grade. I wasn’t an athletic kid growing up and was actually quite the opposite but I wanted to challenge myself in 8th grade and it was the first Jersey I had ever been given! Since then it’s always been part of me.

10. Where are you from?
A:  I am from Orland Park, Illinois a suburb of Chicago.

11. Would you consider playing overseas?
A: If I were to be given the chance I would absolutely love to play overseas, both for indoor or beach volleyball.

12. What position do you feel is the hardest to play?
A: Being a setter is difficult, but I believe that a middle blocker is one of the most physically demanding positions and a constant effort to make yourself available  in every play.

13. What do your workouts consist of?
A:  I try to work on a lot of agility and leg strength to help increase my vertical and quickness. I work a lot on cardio and I also try to keep my upper body in a conditioned level for stronger blocking and consistent setting.

14. How often do you workout during the week?
A:  I try for 4-6 times a week

15. Do you take protein supplements? If so why?
A: I do not take protein supplements; I try to implement protein in my meals when I can however.

16.  Have you ever thought about quitting?
A: Yes multiple times. I felt I was not being coached properly throughout my club career and I almost let that dim my passion but my high school season was always there to remind me how much I loved the game.

17. How do you handle adversity?
A: I like to think I do well under pressure. I feel in pressure points and pivotal moments I tend to elevate my game to a new level. But in general I love to learn how I can improve and what is expected of me.
