Alexis Vickers

I was given the privilege to interview 18 year old, Alexis Vickers today. She responded to my Twitter post an hour ago. I created this blog, Black Rose, so other players around the world can get a taste of what we as athletes (professional, collegiate, and even high schoolers) deal with both on and off the court. So back to what I was saying let's see what Alexis has to say:

1. How old are you?
A: 18

2. What position do you play?
A: Setter/Opp

3. What got you into volleyball?
A: Honestly, I was tired of playing softball and wanted to try something new.

4. Are you currently in or going to college? If so what school will you be attending?
A: I will be a freshman at Eastfield College to continue to play volleyball.

5. Who is your role model?
A: My role model is my mom.

6. As an athlete what challenges do you face on the court?
A: The challenges I face on the court have to be controlling my emotions. I get very into the game and really focused so when me and my teammates get in a slump during the game it can show on my face.

7. Have you ever been injured while playing? If so what did you injure and what was your recovery process?
A: I have never been injured and hopefully I won't ever have to go through that.

8. Do you find it hard/difficult to be in a relationship while in season?
A: No I have not found it difficult.

9. What number are you and why?
A: I am usually number 7 or 23. 7 because my birthday is March 7th and 23 because it's my lucky number.

10. Where are you from?
A: I am from Spring Texas

11. Would you consider playing overseas?
A: I would consider playing overseas, being able to travel the world while doing what you love sounds great.

12. What position do you feel is the hardest to play?
A: I believe being a setter is the hardest position because, you are responsible to get any ball no matter how bad the pass is and have to better it for your hitter to be able to score.

13. What do you workouts consists of?
A: Mostly footwork for setting and weights for my legs so I am able to push the ball.

14. How often do you work out during the week?
A: During the summer it's very minimum but during the season everyday.

15. Do you take protein supplements? If so why?
A: No I don't

16. Have you ever thought about quitting?
A: Yes I have thought about quitting because of the little time I don't get to myself.

17. How do you handle adversity?
A: I just take a deep breath and I really think about what I'm facing before I act on because if I act in the moment the whole situation will be blown out of proportion.
